A happy-go-lucky and innocent girl who, although not well educated, has an extraordinary photographic memory.
When she was 4 years old, her parents separated and she left with her mother. Her mother was later killed in a fire, and Xiaodong was adopted by Dong Jianye and raised in his provision shop. She holds a torch for Chen Haojie – the neighbour who sells lingerie – but he merely sees her as a little sister.
Xiaodong goes all out in search of Jianye’s biological family after he suffers a stroke and reveals his wish to take another family portrait before his final breath.
